Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain without Medical Cause and SHEN Therapy, a Non-Medicinal Solution

“Possibly the most widespread and common conditions (the) emotions can bring to people is chronic pain without medical cause. It is endemic, ongoing and seems to be a human condition. It interferes with all our activities, work and play alike.” Pavek R, Daily T. Disruption of the auto-contractile pain reflex. Journal of Occupational Therapy Practice. 1990, Vol 1, No. 3. 53-61.

Millions of people suffer from arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout. These disorders are characterized by joint pain in the extremities. Many other inflammatory diseases affect the body’s soft tissues, including tendonitis and bursitis.

Back Pain

Back pain has become the high price paid by our modern lifestyle and is a startlingly common cause of disability for many Americans, including both active and inactive people. Back pain that spreads to the leg is called sciatica and is a very common condition (see below). Another common type of back pain is associated with the discs of the spine, the soft, spongy padding between the vertebrae (bones) that form the spine. Discs protect the spine by absorbing shock, but they tend to degenerate over time and may sometimes rupture.

Burn Pain

Burn pain can be profound and poses an extreme challenge to the medical community. First-degree burns are the least severe; with third-degree burns, the skin is lost. Depending on the injury, pain accompanying burns can be excruciating, and even after the wound has healed patients may have chronic pain at the burn site.

Headaches affect millions of people. The three most common types of chronic headache are migraines, cluster headaches, and tension headaches. Each comes with its own brand of pain.

Migraines are characterized by throbbing pain and sometimes by other symptoms, such as nausea and visual disturbances. Migraines are more frequent in women than men. Stress can trigger a migraine headache, and migraines can also put the sufferer at risk for stroke.

Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches are characterized by excruciating, piercing pain on one side of the head; they occur more frequently in men than women.

Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are often described as a tight band around the head.

Sciatica is a painful condition caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, the main nerve that branches off the spinal cord and continues down into the thighs, legs, ankles, and feet. Sciatica is characterized by pain in the buttocks and can be caused by a number of factors. Exertion, obesity, and poor posture can all cause pressure on the sciatic nerve. One common cause of sciatica is a herniated disc.

Phantom Pain

Sometimes, when a limb is removed during an amputation, an individual will continue to have an internal sense of the lost limb. This phenomenon is known as phantom limb and accounts describing it date back to the 1800s. Similarly, many amputees are frequently aware of severe pain in the absent limb. Their pain is real and is often accompanied by other health problems, such as depression.

How does SHEN Therapy help with chronic pain?

SHEN Therapy has had success with all these types of pain but its greatest successes are with physical pain that is linked with emotional pain from the time the injury occurred.

SHEN theory operates on the principle that residue of emotional trauma from earlier in life is held deep inside the body where it influences the way we live our lives, and disrupts normal bodily functioning. When an event occurs that is similar to the originating event, it can aggravate the hidden emotions and cause them to flare up, worsening our behavior and exacerbating our physical problems. The painful emotional trauma is trapped in the body by the Auto-Contractile Pain Reflex (ACPR). Our long experience with Chronic Pain without Medical Cause shows it is the result of hidden emotional trauma inside the body where it has become trapped.

SHEN practice is a science-based form of biofield therapeutics that adheres to the physics of the biofield as deduced by Richard R. Pavek. When doing SHEN, we place our hands on your body in a series of precise, polarized locations that are indicated by the particular emotional condition you present and conform to biofield physics. This correctly focuses the qi (ch’i) from our hands so as to release the ACPR contractions trapping the painful emotions. In this way, SHEN safely lifts the emotions to the surface where they disperse and leave. The back tenses very strongly when injured. The tension itself produces pain in addition to the pain of the actual injury. When the emotions associated with the pain are resolved, the Chronic Pain resolves also.

Examples: Persistent Back Pain

A recent 53 year old client still suffered with back and side pain since he was in an automobile accident when he was18. Years and years of psychological and physical therapy had failed to end it. During a three-hour series of SHEN treatments, he experienced total recall of the auto accident as if it was happening in slow motion. He saw a box of eggs fly through the air, saw, and felt his arms come up to shield himself as he hit the windshield, felt his body twist at the impact. By the conclusion of the sessions, his back pain was gone; it has never returned.

Recently I called a technician to repair my color printer. He set an appointment and then was obliged to postpone it because he had fallen and injured his back. After resting for a day, he felt much better so he drove over. By the time he arrived, his back pain had returned and he had difficulty moving. When he had finished repairing my printer, I asked if he would like some SHEN. He agreed and lay down on his stomach. At the end of the session he reported, “It felt like my back was lowering, layer by layer, and now the pain is all gone!” I checked with him a day later, it still had not returned.

Example: Sciatica

I had sciatica myself for several years, but since having several SHEN sessions, over 15 years ago, it has not bothered me at all. There is no trace of it left.
